The Flag Service Organization in Clearwater, Florida, occupies more than 30 buildings. The Fort Harrison (above) is a religious retreat for parishioners who come from around the world. At the next higher level of the Scientology religious hierarchy is Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization, located in Clearwater, Florida, the largest single Church of Scientology in the world.

The “Flag” in this church’s name originates from its beginnings in 1967 aboard the Apollo, which served as the flagship of a small fleet of ships used in the 1960s and 1970s as religious retreats and training vessels. The name was maintained as tradition when this church moved ashore.
